....Amorgos was one of the many Greek islands that we stopped at on our way across, and then back through the Aegean, the storied "wine dark sea" of Homer's Oddesey. The sea is rich in history and legend and is one of the most scenic bodies of water on earth, but it is also subject to periodic winds called "Meltemes" which whip up steep, nasty seas that have swallowed many an ancient and modern ship or boat.
....We anchored in the harbor for the night and climbed the steep road that led to the top of the mountan. We passed terraced fields and goats with their legs hobbled so they could not run off, and farmers tending to their crops. We got to the top at sunset and looked out at the hazy scene while seagulls wheeled around below us.
